In route to finding out what God had planned for me in the ministry, he placed a verse on me and my wife's heart.
I Samuel 12:24
"Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you."
A man can prepare for the mission field for years in America and still not be prepared for what he will face when he lands on foreign soil.
But, God used this verse in me and Meagans heart. He used the verse to help us realize that there are some things known as the American dream, that are not in His "dream" I will give you the 5 that most come to mind.
1. Buying a house
2. Owning a nice Car
3. Raising our children around their family
4. Being Monetarily sound. i.e. having a savings account
5. Just being comfortable
The list goes on and on...
This list is not necessarily bad, its great for a family to work towards these goals. But, God made a change in our hearts when we read and applied this scripture.
For as long as we are on the mission field we will most likely never own our home. We will not own a "dream" car. We will not be close to our family (in relation to miles) . We may not ever be monetarily sound. From what I have heard from other missionaries I know, its hard to find comfort in a foreign land.
This is a true test.
But, the test gets easier when we consider what great things God has done. If we consider the blessings and the gifts God has given, then it becomes easy to realize we MUST serve Him. We MUST consider Heaven and understand we will never be in Hell, that is enough to realize we MUST live a life in service to Him. God does not call all men to pastor, or to be a missionary. But God does call all man to serve him. The saved man MUST serve Christ.
John 3:14-15
" Even as Moses lifted up the serpent even so MUST the son of man be lifted up: 15: That whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have eternal life"
Everyones life is consumed with working to get things. Are you working for your things or for Gods things?
Where can you serve?
