September Prayer Letter

Hello Pastors and praying friends,

Fellowship Baptist Church is well on its way. We have been meeting in a small house since August 1. We spent the beginning of the month putting in a little muscle work. After busting out a couple of walls, a few coats of paint, and plenty of cleaning; this small house became our church home. We can fit about 30 adults inside, and a whole lot of kids outside!

July 31 was the Saturday before our first service. We gathered with a group of friends to hand out as many invitations as possible. It was a beautiful day outside, which meant lots of people in the streets. Everyone who walked by thought it was hilarious to see white people in their neighborhood (which never happens.) We had an opportunity to speak to several people, however most of them were drunk. (keep in mind this was around 10 am.) One man in particular, told us with his voice cracking, that he wished alcohol didn't exist. That it controlled him. If you could only see the look of hopelessness we saw on so many faces. We left that day so burdened for the area God has called us to. We prayed, and we're still praying, that God's light will shine through all the darkness that is covering Motherwell. That lives, families, and ultimately the community will be changed through the power of the gospel.

On our first service, the Lord blessed us with 29 visitors! To say we were encouraged would be an understatement.

We have been meeting for about six weeks now, and we're starting to see some faces regularly. We have also had the privilege of seeing two people saved. The Lord is blessing and we know he will build his church. That being said, please pray for clear understanding of the gospel. Culture is such an integral part of the Xhosa people's lives, and for some, it is very difficult to abandon their beliefs, and turn to Christ alone.

As of now we are meeting on Sunday Mornings at 10 AM and Thursday evening Bible study. The Bible study has been growing ,so we are looking forward to starting a mid-week service soon.

Thank you to all of those who have prayed and supported us over this time. As I mentioned in the last prayer letter the lockdown is over, and fortunately Covid has not affected us or our services. Also, over the past month, we have continued to receive donations for our church building. We are so thankful; and we are excited to use it for a permanent building in the future!
